JOB SUMMARY The Lead Phlebotom! ist is responsible for collecting patient specimens from clinic patients in accordance with established procedures. Responsible for distributing specimens to appropriate areas within St. Luke's laboratory. Responsible for general clerical duties. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School graduate; and (see Experience) or completion of an accredited phlebotomy course with demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy. Experience: Six (6) months of phlebotomy experience. At least one (1) year of St. Luke's of phlebotomy experience with demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy (Lead). Licensure/Certification/Registration: Active BCLS or ability to become certified within probationary period. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: N/A Experience: N/A Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification as phlebotomist. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Skill in phlebotomy. Knowledge of phlebotomy collection processes, Universal Precautions, generally accepted safety practices. Ability t! o accurately collect and process lab specimens and maintain sa! mple report identity using patient name and identification number through sample receipt, processing, and reporting. Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and maintain strict confidentiality with regard to patient information. Ability to effectively greet the public, work well with patients and employees and to communicate effectively with all individuals. Ability to follow directions and perform tasks outlined in procedure. Ability to exercise judgment and take responsibility to maintain patient health and safety during specimen collection. Ability to organize work and meet deadlines. Able to write legibly, see, hear, read and speak English. READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures. SPEAKING - Basic: Ability to speak simple sentences. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to ad! d and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES - Skilled at assessment and knowledgeable of growth and development. Provides appropriate care respective to the ages of the patients served per clinical environment.
