Responsibilities
Req ID: 37800 The primary purpose of the Research Nurse position is to provide independent and advanced clinical and operational management of neuro-oncology based research protocols. The Research Nurse is responsible and accountable for delegating and coordinating patient care. Accountable that patient care meets standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights and guest relations. Supervises care delivered by patient care team; coordinates plan of care; provides education for patients and staff; collaborates with other disciplines; provides direct patient care for specific patient age groups.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assist with study start up activities including but not limited to participating in pre-study visits, determining and working through trial logistics, creating source documentation and ensuring all research staff is properly trained in study specific activities.
  • Perform screening activities and determine patient eligibility, assist in obtaining informed consent, randomize patients into studies, coordinate patient care throughout the clinical trial, and assure study compliance.
  • Perform as a data manager for research protocols, complete case report forms and adverse event forms. Interact with study monitors and other staff to assure accurate and precise data. Complete patient tracking logs in a timely and accurate basis in accordance with protocol guidelines.
  • Provide input in the timely reporting of adverse events and protocol responses/outcomes to the Allina IRB as well as study sponsors.
  • Participate in drug accountability in conjuction with rest of the study team and records drug accountability information in compliance to federal and departmental guidelines as well as protocol requirements
  • Communicate effectively by leading interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary team, implementing change to meet protocol goals. Participates in quality assurance/audit activities.
  • Accountable for patient care outcomes. Applies specialty certification and/or specialty knowledge in clinical practice. Maintains source documentation per institutional, federal and protocol standards.
  • Serve as advocate for patients on research trials as well as proper conduct of research and compliance with the protocol requirements.
  • Demonstrate Fiscal Comprehension, i.e., knowledgeable of interfacing mechanism with Allina Hospitals & Clinics Sponsored Project Administration, knowledgeable of appropriate billing procedures, provide input regarding protocol cost analysis , and knowledgeable of protocol budget contract requirements (i.e., accrual notification, CRF completion for payment etc.).
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with a BSN degree required
MSN or OCN preferred
Current MN RN license preferred

Qualification/Skills
The Nurse Researcher must be able to demonstrate commitment to collaborative professional relationships with physicians and all members of the heath care team. In addition, employee should be able to display a high level of responsibility, ethical practice, sensitivity to a diverse patient population and adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. He/she should possess the technical proficiency required to do the job as well as up-to-date knowledge in the profession. He/she should be able to provide technical expertise to others and demonstrate analytical/innovative thinking.

Minimum of one year of hospital nursing experience; experience with neuro and/or oncology preferred
2-5 years of clinical trials experience strongly preferred with demonstrated understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements for clinical research
Experience in oncology trials preferred
Prior experience in electronic data capture systems (e.g. Inform) preferred
Proficient computer skills including: Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet are necessary
