Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the individual hired, will work as a team with two! other accounting staff members to coordinate services to a group of divisions within the OP Administrative Center. Executing these duties requires the ability to effectively partner with faculty and administrative staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS with a major in accounting and three (3) years of professional accounting experience or an equivalent combination of related education and relevant profession accounting experience to total seven (7) years.
  • University of Minnesota grant and contract experience
  • Experience with sponsored project and non-sponsored program accounting at the University of Minnesota, including budget development and analysis, forecasting, monitoring grant activity, reporting and auditing
  • Experience with University of Minnesota systems, including EFS (Enterprise Financial System), HRMS (PeopleSoft), EGMS (Electronic Grants Management System), and ECRT (effort certification system)
  • Demo! nstrated experience/knowledge of University financial policies! and accounting guidelines
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Excel
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current University of Minnesota certified approver or be able to complete training and obtain certification after employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to act independently and also operate as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer service skills and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Duties/Responsibilities

45% - Research Accounting

Financial manager over entire life of a project, from proposal to closure. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist pre-award team in establishing grant budgets.
  • Determine appropriate payroll percentages for labor charging and effort certification.
  • Generate financial reports that in! clude income/expense forecasts
  • Meets on a regular basis with administrators, principal investigators, and other staff to review financial status
  • Work with principal investigators to resolve accounting issues.
  • Closing grant years, fiscal years, and projects.
  • Monitor accounts receivable.
40% - Analysis & Reporting

Forecasting and analysis of areas of business in the dept. Review internal service organization (ISO) expenditures and recalculate rates per University and federal policies and procedures. Work with faculty/management to develop financial plans. Generate ad hoc and standard reports incorporating accruals and projections.

10% - Certified Approver & Effort Certification

Audit and approve financial transactions >$1,000 and all adjusting transactions on sponsored projects within divisions assigned to accounting team. Provide departmental staff information on expenditure requirements and policy.!

Work with Accountant I for oversight of effort certification ! process for assigned faculty. Work with faculty to resolve discrepancies and ensure timeliness of reporting.

5% Actively participate in professional development activities;

Participate in weekly staff meetings for updates and discussion of current issues within the center. Serve as Center expert on assigned policies; serve on Center-wide or University-wide projects; identify and help make improvements to local business processes; actively participate in work team. Attend University financial training or conferences.

Program/Unit Description

This appointment will be held in the Finance area of the Departments of Pediatrics, OB/GYN and Women's Health.
